I upgraded from the 6550 to the 6550-PRO. The manual says to download and install the CH340SER.inf driver. Where can I find that?

its on the usb and memory card that came with the laser, but if you already installed it you don’t need to again

Thanks Shawn. I thought it might be but for some reason my laptop is not recognizing the USB that came with the machine. Will try to figure that out tomorrow. I did a search on the laptop for that file and was not found(without the new USB) thinking it might be there from my first 6550.
Did get the x-axis timing belt problem taken care of. I loosen up the two screws on the belt tensioner which gave me just enough slack to get the belt in place.

you have to insert the memory card into the USB, and it only goes one way and is a pain to put in

Well crap!! Never heard of such a thing. Anything to confuse an old man. 
update: Yup. That did it. Opened up and see the files.
